There was a moment — I remember it clearly — standing in front of my wardrobe, already late, and nothing fit the way it used to. Not because of anything dramatic. Just time. Just life. My body had quietly shifted, the way bodies do when they are busy being lived in. And every piece of clothing I reached for seemed to remind me of that.
I didn't want to cover up. I didn't want to hide. I just wanted to get dressed and feel like myself — comfortable, feminine, free.

That moment is why Sukaah exists.
"I didn't want to cover up. I wanted to feel beautiful in the skin I was actually in — not the one I used to have."
Bodies change. That's not a problem to solve.
We live in a culture that treats a changing body like something to be corrected. But bodies are not mistakes. They are records — of time, of experience, of everything you have been through and survived and grown into.
For women navigating perimenopause or menopause, a changing body often comes with real physical needs: breathability, softness, something that doesn't cling when your temperature rises without warning. Menopause clothing should do more than simply fit — it should work with your body, not against it. For women postpartum, it means ease — clothing that doesn't fight you when you already have enough to manage. For anyone who has simply grown, shifted, or changed with the years, it means clothing designed for the body you are in right now, not the one you used to have.
This is not a niche. This is most of us. And it is the body Sukaah was made for.

A plant that has clothed people for thousands of years
When I found ramie, I found something I hadn't been looking for: a fabric that felt genuinely alive.
Ramie is one of the oldest natural fibres in existence. Long before synthetic fabrics were invented, ramie was being woven into clothing across Asia and beyond. It comes from a plant — the inner bark of the ramie stem — and it is entirely, completely natural. No petroleum. No plastic. No synthetic blend. Just a plant, processed with care, spun into something you can wear.
And what it does on the body is remarkable. As breathable clothing for warm climates, ramie is unmatched. It allows air to move freely against your skin, which means it keeps you cool in the Queensland heat in a way that no polyester blend ever could. It doesn't trap warmth. It doesn't cling. It simply sits — lightly, softly — and lets you exist comfortably in it. Whether you're at home on the coast, travelling, or stepping out for the day, this is natural fibre clothing that genuinely breathes with you.
Ramie is also strong. Stronger than cotton. It holds its structure beautifully and — this is the part I love most — it softens the more you wear it. It doesn't wear out. It wears in. It becomes yours over time, shaped gently by your body and your life.
And when it has lived its full life? It returns to the earth. Fully biodegradable. A complete, closed loop. There is something deeply right about that.
"Ramie doesn't wear out. It wears in. It softens with you, shapes to you, becomes yours."
No two pieces are the same. That's the point.
Every Sukaah garment is handwoven and handcrafted by skilled artisans. Real hands. Real time. Real care poured into every piece.
What that means — and I want you to sit with this for a moment — is that your piece is not identical to anyone else's. The weave may vary slightly. The drape may sit a little differently. There may be a tiny irregularity in the texture that a machine would have ironed out, but a human hand left in.
I think that is beautiful.

We live in a world of perfect sameness. Every fast fashion garment is a copy of a copy — pressed out by machines at speed, identical down to the last stitch. There is no human in it. No trace of the hands that made it, because in that system, hands are just a step in a process to be made cheaper and faster.
A Sukaah piece carries something different. It carries the mark of the person who made it. That slight variation in the weave isn't a flaw — it's evidence of humanity. It's proof that someone sat with your garment and gave it their skill and attention. And that, in a world of mass production, feels genuinely rare. This is what slow fashion looks like in practice: not a trend, but a return to something more human.
"That slight irregularity in the weave isn't a flaw. It's evidence of the human hands that made it."
Ramie Natural Fibre Clothing
Ramie natural fibre — clothing that works with your body, not against it.
Breathable, natural, and crafted for the way women actually live.
Ethical by nature — not by marketing
Because ramie is plant-based and our pieces are handcrafted by fairly paid artisans, choosing Sukaah is also a more conscious choice — but I want to be honest about something: that was never the starting point for me.
The starting point was wanting to feel beautiful. Wanting to be cool and comfortable in the heat. Wanting clothing made with real care that would last more than a season.
The ethics followed naturally from that — because when you choose materials that come from the earth and return to it, and when you value the hands that make your clothing, you end up with something that is genuinely better for everyone. The planet. The artisans. And you.
Sukaah is ethical fashion Australia can be proud of — not because we set out to wear our values on our sleeve, but because those values are simply built into the way everything is made.
It turns out that caring about how something is made and caring about how it feels on your body are not separate things. They're the same thing.

This is for every body that has ever changed
Sukaah was born in North Queensland, from hot days and a body that had surprised me. It was born from a desire to feel quietly, privately confident — the way you feel when you put something on and think: yes. This is me.
It is for women in menopause who need breathable fabric and soft silhouettes. For women postpartum, for women who travel, for women who live near the coast and want sustainable resort wear that feels as effortless as it looks. For anyone who has ever stood in front of a wardrobe and wished their clothes would simply let them be.
And it is for people who want to know that what they are wearing was grown in the earth, shaped by human hands, and made to last.
Your body has changed. So has mine. I made something because of that — something made exactly for the body you have right now.
